In Lahore, Indian journalist Barkha Dutt meets Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif

In what seems to be a crucial meeting given the current political events in the area, Indian journalist Barkha Dutt recently met with former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, in Lahore.

Dutt's visit coincides with Pakistan's preparations to host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference, according to Express News. International media personnel traveled to Pakistan to cover the meeting between Barkha Dutt and the Pakistan Muslim League (N) leadership, which was held against the backdrop of SCO preparations.

Several foreign delegations, including prominent politicians and diplomats, are expected to visit Pakistan for the SCO meeting. S. Jaishankar, the Indian minister of external affairs, had previously scheduled to travel to Pakistan in order to attend the summit. Although media attention may be high due to the nature of Indo-Pak relations, Jaishankar had already ruled out the idea of any bilateral talks with Pakistani leaders, saying that the summit will remain a multilateral platform focused on regional cooperation.

Given the ongoing hostilities between India and Pakistan, this meeting between Barkha Dutt and Nawaz Sharif is significant. Although the talks are still confidential, media circles are interested in the possible ramifications for regional diplomacy.

The presence of media personalities like Dutt highlights the international interest in Pakistan's political situation as the nation prepares for the crucial SCO conference. As part of the summit preparations, the Chinese Premier also arrived in Islamabad today, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
